#13 Lewis Women’s Volleyball Honors Seniors; Sweeps Upper Iowa Saturday


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 13 Lewis University women’s volleyball team swept Upper Iowa Sunday (Nov. 4) at Neil Carey Arena on Senior Night.

After the match, the Flyers honored seniors Lauren Stenman (Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul), Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs), Natalie Stefanski (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet West), Megan Schlechte (Strasburg, Ill./Stewardson-Strasburg), and Bella Ray (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic).

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: Lewis 25, Upper Iowa 16

Lewis started fast, taking an 11-2 lead right out of the gate with six kills and two service aces. Upper Iowa responded with a 3-0 run to trim the deficit to six.

 

After that, the Flyers put up four consecutive points before the Peacocks took four of five the other way. The teams continued to go back-and-forth, trading 3-0 runs that left the score at 21-14 in favor of Lewis.

 

The Flyers finished the set taking four of the last six points, finishing it on an Upper Iowa attack error. Lewis took the set in large part thanks to serving, with four aces and one error compared to one ace and four errors for the Peacocks.

 

Set 2: Lewis 30, Upper Iowa 28

The Flyers once again gained an early advantage, going up 4-1. Upper Iowa pushed back strong, taking seven of the next 10 points with six kills.

 

Lewis regrouped to secure a 7-2 burst with three kills and two Peacock service errors. There was more back-and-forth action from there, with neither side taking back-to-back points until UIU took two straight to make it 19-17 Flyers.

 

After Lewis reached set point at 24-19, the Peacocks surged on a 5-0 run to force the set long. After a back-and-forth, the Flyers finished the set with a 3-0 run on three kills as Van Loo had the kill to secure the set win.

 

Set 3: Lewis 25, Upper Iowa 18

The third set began with back-and-forth action as Lewis held a slim 3-2 lead early. Then, Upper Iowa had a 5-2 push to grab the advantage.
