ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team began its 2025 season on a strong note as the Flyers swept Maryville 3-0 at Neil Carey Arena Friday (Jan. 10).

SET 1: Lewis 25, Maryville 19
Both teams each scored four points to start the contest. Lewis got the next two off kills from Roquet and Oguz to make it 6-4.
Maryville cut it down to 7-6 in favor of the Flyers but that was the closest the Saints got the rest of the way. Lewis was able to extend the lead out to 20-12 after a block from Baggs, Haber, Oguz.
The Saints tried to get back in the game after getting back-to-back points but Baggs and Frederick Krueger-Beer (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) got a pair of kills extending it back out to eight (22-14). Lewis won the opening set after Roquet recorded the kill to clinch it.
SET 2: Lewis 25, Maryville 22
Lewis went ahead 3-2 after a kill from Haber. Maryville responded with three straight points to grab a 5-3 lead. Moments later, the Saints went up 6-4 before the Flyers responded with five unanswered which was capped by a kill from Krueger-Beer to make it 9-6.
Maryville got back into the set after back-to-back points to make it 9-8. The set was close throughout the duration but Lewis extended its advantage to 21-16 after a kill from Baggs.
The Saints responded with three straight points to make it 21-19 Lewis. The Flyers were able to close out the set and win it 25-22 and go up 2-0.
SET 3: Lewis 25, Maryville 22
Both teams each scored a point before the Flyers scored three straight points including kills from Roquet and Morgan to make it 4-1. Maryville rallied and cut it down to 8-6.
Lewis went on to score four straight including kills from Krueger-Beer, Haber and Oguz to make it 12-6. The Saints were able to make it 17-14 in favor of the Flyers late but…
