#14 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Suffers Setback Against George Mason Friday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team suffered a setback against George Mason, 3-0, on the first day of the DC Challenge Friday.

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: George Mason 25, Lewis 18

  • George Mason scored the first two points of the match before Lewis responded with two of their own after a block by Antonio Elias-Rodriguez and Morgan.
  • The Patriots went on a 5-1 rally to go ahead 7-3 in the opening set.
  • Lewis was able to rally and tie the first set at 12-all after scoring three straight which was started by a kill from Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach).
  • GMU responded right away with four straight points to make it 16-12 in favor of the Patriots.
  • George Mason would not give up the lead the rest of the way as the Patriots won the opening set 25-18.

SECOND SET: George Mason 25, Lewis 23

  • Both teams went back-and-forth to start the second set, making it 5-5.
  • Cole Brillhart (York, Pa./Northeastern) recorded a kill to make it 6-5 then the Patriots scored three unanswered to grab an 8-6 advantage.
  • Lewis would try to inch closer from the deficit but George Mason was always one step ahead.
