#14 Lewis Women’s Volleyball Falls in Both Matches During Final Day of Florida Southern Tournament


LAKELAND, Fla. — The No. 14 Lewis University women’s volleyball team were unable to come away with a victory Saturday (Sept. 7) as the Flyers fell to (RV) Augusta 3-0 then Florida Southern 3-1.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. AU

Set 1: AU 25, Lewis 21

Augusta grabbed the upper hand after taking the first set 25-21. Lewis jumped out to an early 3-1 lead including a pair of kills from Stefanski.

The Jaguars responded by scoring three straight points to grab a 4-3 lead. Both teams each traded points then Lewis went on a rally and led 19-14 late after a block from Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Valparaiso).

AU responded by scoring four straight points to get back in the set to cut it down to one (19-18). Lauren Buxton (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) put an end to the run after recording a kill.

Augusta scored six points in a row including three kills from Madelyn Eden to force set point at 24-20. Stefanski responded with a kill as she looked to start a rally for Lewis but the Jaguars got the next point.

Set 2: Lewis 25, AU 22

Lewis responded and bounced back by taking the second set 25-22. AU did jump out to an early 4-2 lead.

The Flyers rallied for four out of the next five points to grab a 6-5 lead. AU regained the lead after scoring the next three points.

Both teams went back-and-forth for the majority of the second set. Augusta led 21-20 late in the set before Lewis scored four straight to force set point capped off by a block from Buxton and Emma O’Neill (Papillion, NE/Papillion La Vista South).

The Jaguars got the next point before the Flyers won the set off the kill from Stefanski to tie it at 1-1.

Set 3: AU 25, Lewis 22

Augusta responded by taking the third set 25-22 and a 2-1 match lead. Both teams went back-and-forth trading points at a time.
