Vinh Phuc, Vietnam, April 23, 2023 – All is set for the staging of the 2023 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship between April 25 and May 2 at the newly-renovated Vinh Phuc Gymnasium, with Control Committee President and Technical Delegate Dr Eom Han-Joo chairing the combined session on Sunday to verify processes to ensure working conditions for a successful run of this continent’s topflight club competition and examine relevant activities including a site inspection ahead of the official kickoff coming Tuesday.

A total of 9 teams will test their mettle in the eight-day tournament, which serves as the Asian qualification tournament for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, due to be held in December in China. They are Sport Center 1 (hosts Vietnam), King Whale Taipei (Chinese Taipei), Paykan (Iran) and Hisamitsu Springs (Japan) in Pool A and Liaoning Donghua VC (China),  Hip Hing VC (Hong Kong, China), Altay VC (Kazakhstan), Khuvsgul Erchim VC (Mongolia) and Diamond Food Fine Chef Sport Club (Thailand) in Pool B.

Teams will play pool round-robin preliminaries, with only top two teams from each pool advancing to the cross semifinals. The lower-ranked sides finishing 3rd and 4th places in Pool A and 3rd, 4th and 5th places in Pool B will fight it out in classification round for 5th-9th places.

Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mr Tran Duc Phan, himself Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam, presided over the joint meeting at the meeting room inside the Vinh Phuc Gymnasium on Sunday to deliver a welcome speech to all meeting attendants.

“On behalf of Volleyball Federation of Vietnam, I would like to say that I’m very delighted to welcome everyone to this championship. It’s quite a long time for Vietnam to host this event and I’m also happy to welcome my dear colleagues from AVC to Vinh Phuc, a sporting destination for several major events including the last year’s SEA Games and the Asian Women’s Club Championship for many times. The Vinh Phuc Gymnasium has already been renovated with improvement of facilities. I hope that the renovated competition hall will meet all AVC’s requirements. Although I’m very busy with other sporting commitments, I will do my best and hope for the best that the championship will be a success,” Mr Phan, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration, was quoted as saying in his speech.
