SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College Department of Athletics has unveiled its schedules for the 2023 fall season.
Twelve Union fall teams are set to begin play in the fall 2023 trimester, beginning on Friday, September 1 when the men’s soccer team hosts SUNY Oneonta at College Park Field and five other teams (men’s and women’s cross country at Vassar, field hockey at Castleton, women’s soccer at Rutgers-Newark and women’s volleyball at Stevens) all get the season started on the road.
The football and women’s tennis teams start play the following day on Saturday, September 2 at Hilbert and William Smith, respectively. The women’s soccer team’s home opener comes on Sunday, September 3 against Wheaton, three days before the women’s volleyball team starts off its home slate against Castleton on September 6. The men’s tennis team kicks off its fall season on Saturday, September 9 at St. Lawrence, while that day will also have the field hockey team playing its first home game of the season against Ramapo and the women’s tennis team hosting day one of the annual Union Invitational.
The football team will hold its home opener under the lights of Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium on Friday, September 15 at 7 p.m. against Springfield. It will mark Union’s first Friday game since September 13, 1991 at WPI and the first intercollegiate football game played on a Friday in Schenectady since Union defeated Syracuse 24-0 on November 7, 1880. The men’s tennis team gets its fall home slate started on September 16 with day one of its home invitational as well.
Homecoming and Family Weekend (September 29-October 1) will once again feature several Union fall teams playing at home, including football versus St. Lawrence, women’s soccer hosting Rensselaer and women’s volleyball hosting Ithaca, in addition to a pair of home women’s hockey games as well.
The crew teams will begin their abbreviated fall campaign on Saturday, October 7 at the Head of the Housatonic. The women’s golf team, under new head coach Matt McPhillips, will announce its fall schedule soon.
