#23 Lewis Women's Volleyball Defeats #24 Regis; Falls to (RV) Dallas Baptist Saturday


DENVER — The No. 23 Lewis University women’s volleyball team picked up a road victory against host No. 24 Regis 3-1 and then lost to (RV) Dallas Baptist 3-1 Saturday (Sept. 14).

SET BREAKDOWN vs. REGIS

Set 1: Lewis 25, Regis 22

Lewis jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the set before Regis looked to mount a comeback and scored the next four out of five points to make it 9-6 Flyers.

The Rangers responded by tying the set at 12-12 then took the lead 15-13. The Flyers bounced back with three straight points including back-to-back kills from King and Alvey to make it 16-15. 

Lewis was able to hang on and take the first set 25-22 after a kill from Ray. 

Set 2: Regis 25, Lewis 13

Lewis led 4-2 early after a block from Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Valparaiso) and Alvey but then it was all Regis from that point. The Rangers rallied for six straight points to grab a 10-6 lead and never looked back. 

The Flyers looked to mount a comeback and made it 16-10 in favor of the Rangers after a kill from Ray but Regis stayed ahead and won the set 25-13.

Set 3: Lewis 26, Regis 24

Lewis jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after a kill from Stefanski. Regis had the answer and went on a 11-3 rally which put the Rangers ahead 12-7. 

Regis went up 19-13 before the Flyers put up five straight points to cut it to one (19-18) after back-to-back blocks from O’Neil and Buxton.  The Rangers went up 23-19 before Lewis forced set point after rallying off five in a row including a pair of service aces from Alvey and a kill from Stefanski. 

The Flyers closed out the set and won it 26-24.

Set 4: Lewis 25, Regis 19

Lewis jumped out to an early 7-3 lead after a kill from Ray. Regis bought back with an 8-4 run which tied it at 11-11.

The Flyers responded with four straight capped off by an ace by Elena Gubera (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone). The Rangers fought back again tie it at 16-16 but Lewis had the upper hand the rest…
