ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The No. 25 Lewis University women’s volleyball team picked up a huge Great Lakes Valley Conference victory against Missouri S&T, 3-1, in their home finale on Senior Day Saturday. The Flyers honored Mikah Freppon (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic)Andrea Zeiser (Eureka, Mo./Eureka), Farah Taki (North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and Gisela Bode (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie) before the match.

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: Lewis 25, Missouri S&T 23

  • Both teams went back-and-forth and scored six points a piece before Lewis rallied for three points in a row capped off by a block by Ray.
  • Missouri S&T would rally for four in a row of their own to grab an 14-12 advantage midway through the first set.
  • It would go back-and-forth most of the way through the set before the Miners led 24-23 then the Flyers scored three points in a row including back-to-back kills by Schlechte to win the opening set 26-24.

SECOND SET: Missouri S&T 25, Lewis 12

  • Missouri S&T started the second set ahead 5-0 before Van Loo recorded a kill.
  • The Miners went up 17-6 in the second set.
  • Stefanski recorded a kill and a service ace to make it down to 23-12.
  • MST scored the last two points of the second set to tie the match at 1-all.

THIRD SET: Lewis 26, Missouri S&T 24

  • Missouri S&T used momentum from the second set and went on a 6-2 rally to start the third set.
  • Van Loo got the Flyers right back in the third set after her service ace tied the set at 9-all.
  • The Miners went on another rally to go up 16-12 before Lewis scored five straight to grab a 17-16 by a kill from Stefanski.
  • Lewis went up 24-20 to have set point but the Miners would not give up scoring four straight to tie it at 24-all.
  • Zeiser was able to give the Flyers a 2-1 set lead after a service ace gave Lewis a 26-24 victory.
