Black Mountain, N.C.- The volleyball team went back on the road on Tuesday. The team went to the state of North Carolina to face the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers, an opponent from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

A kill by Gabby Harris off an Olivia Bolin setup made the score 3-3. The score stayed close as a Marjorie Smith kill made the score 5-5 and a Jenna Huppert kill made the score 7-6 in favor of Montreat. After a kill by Aly Grace Lemons made the score 15-11 in favor of the opponents, the team went on a drought which saw the Lady Cavaliers score eight straight points to help them take the first set 25-12.

Tennessee Wesleyan fell behind 6-1 early in the second set. After falling behind 10-4, the Lady Bulldogs made a run, using points by Huppert, Ariana Smith, Haylie Peoples, and Kali Bowie to pull back within two points of the lead with the scoreboard reading 12-10. A few moments after a Madison Coffey kill, TWU took control of the set on a Bowie and A. Smith block assist, moving ahead 19-18. The score remained close over the next few minutes, with a kill by M. Smith making the score 24-23 and a Lemons kill making the score 25-24. A 25-25 tie was broken by Montreat with two straight points though to give them the second set by a score of 27-25, and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Facing the end of the match, the Lady Bulldogs took a 4-2 lead off a Maggie Olson service ace. The opponents took control of the match though, holding onto it over the next few points. A kill by Peoples gave the team a 12-11 advantage but Montreat came back and took the lead, moving ahead 18-15. TWU did not let them keep the lead long, moving ahead 20-19 on a Lemons kill off a Jayda Perry set up. The team held on to the momentum and took the third set 25-23 to extend the match.
