First-Year Interim Head Coach Ryan McDonough ’19 Releases 2022 Women’s Volleyball Schedule

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball team, which will be guided by first-year interim head coach Ryan McDonough ’19, released its 2022 schedule that will feature a season-opening 16-match road trip, along with seven home contests inside Speidel Gymnasium. McDonough, a 2019 graduate of Elmira College, takes over the reins of the program for Daniel Miranda, who left following the 2021 season.

McDonough, who was recently named head men’s volleyball coach with the Soaring Eagles, held the position of associate head coach for each of the two programs. He was a four-year starter for the Soaring Eagles and a two-time All-United Volleyball Conference (UVC) honoree that finished a successful career for the Purple & Gold ranked first in aces (175), third in kills (1,197), and fifth in kills per set (2.51).

The Soaring Eagles kick off their 2022 campaign by heading to Cazenovia for a two-day tournament on September 2 and 3 inside Edwards Gymnasium. EC will then turn its attention to a meeting against Pitt-Bradford on September 7 as the Purple & Gold will face the Panthers for the first time since the 2019 season.

September 9 and 10 will be a busy weekend on the road for the Soaring Eagles as Elmira will play four times over the two-day stretch with matches against SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Canton, Plattsburgh State, and SUNY Poly. Facing regular foes in SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton, EC will match up against the Cardinals of Plattsburgh for the first time since 2019 and face the Wildcats of Poly for just the second head-to-head meeting all-time since 2014.

Elmira will ship out to Massachusetts for contests on September 16 and 17 against Smith College and Clark University before wrapping up its weekend with a match against New England College. The lone meeting between EC and Smith was during the 1995 season, while Elmira and Clark have played three previous times (most recently in 2001). The Soaring Eagles and Pilgrims of NEC played in consecutive years during the 2018 and 2019 seasons with both programs recording a win.

The Soaring Eagles head to the campus of Gallaudet on September 23 for a pair of matches with the Bison and Lebanon Valley before meeting Washington College on September 24, also on the campus of Gallaudet. EC opens Empire 8 action on the road against the newest conference member, Medaille, on…
