Women's Volleyball Announces 2022 Schedule


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s volleyball, which is set to begin its first season under new head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, announced its 2022 schedule on Monday. The 31-match regular season slate includes 16 matches against teams that qualified for the 2021 NCAA Tournament, including five against non-conference opponents and 11 against Big Ten foes.
 
Penn State opens the season with the first of its two home tournaments, opening with Connecticut as part of the Penn State Invitational on Friday, Aug. 26. The Nittany Lions host Loyola (Md.) and West Virginia the following day. The Mountaineers will be the first returning NCAA qualifier on the schedule.
 
The Lions hit the road for the following two weekends, starting with three matches in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as part of LSU’s Tiger Challenge. They play returning NCAA Tournament participant Iowa State and Troy on Friday, Sept. 2, and then take on the host Tigers the following day. The Lions go back on the road the following weekend for the prestigious Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge, where they will play returning NCAA qualifiers Stanford (Sept. 9) and Oregon (Sept. 10) at Minnesota’s Maturi Pavilion.
 
Penn State wraps up the non-conference schedule at Rec Hall with three matches at the Penn State Classic. The Lions host returning NCAA qualifier Howard on Friday, Sept. 16, and Albany and Coastal Carolina the following day.
 
The Big Ten schedule begins at Rec Hall for the Lions as they host Indiana on Friday, Sept. 23, and Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 24.
 
The home conference schedule also includes matchups with Michigan State (Oct. 2), Illinois (Oct. 9), Rutgers (Oct. 23), Ohio State (Oct. 29), Maryland (Nov. 2), Minnesota (Nov. 18), Wisconsin (Nov. 19), and Purdue (Nov. 25).
 
Big Ten road matchups for Penn State include Wisconsin (Sept. 30), Ohio State (Oct. 7), Nebraska (Oct. 14), Iowa (Oct. 15), Maryland (Oct. 21), Illinois (Oct. 26), Rutgers (Nov. 6), Indiana (Nov. 11), Purdue (Nov. 12), Northwestern (Nov. 23).
 
Penn State is coming off a season in which it went 21-11 overall and 13-7 in the Big Ten. The Lions played in the NCAA Tournament for the 41st consecutive season, which includes every NCAA Tournament since it began in 1981.
