Against the formidable Korea, Japan silenced the Koreans’ cheering enthusiasts and fans inside the competition venue with their splendid teamwork mixed with combination attacks and scintillating blocks to produce fantastic comeback 3-1 (37-39, 25-22, 25-21, 25-14) win against the 1999 champions to storm into the final showdown of this topflight championship.

Following the exceptional win, Japan advanced to the final, their 6th in history since they first made it in the second edition in 1999 in Chiayi, Chinese Taipei. Of the previous 6 finals of the biennial competition, Japan had reigned supreme for 2 times including the last two in 2017 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar and 2018 in Tabriz, Iran where they swept South Korea in both finals.

Iran pulled off convincing straight-set (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) win against India in the other semifinal clash.

As Iran face off Japan in the final showdown, India will battle it out with Korea, the team they had already beaten in straight sets in the preliminary Pool B clash, in the third-place playoff to fight for the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, the classification round for 5th-8th places saw Chinese Taipei shut out Thailand 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-20) to next fight for the 5th place against China.

The fast-improving China fought hard against Kuwait to overpower the opponents in thrilling straight sets 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.

Following the dramatic win, China set up a rematch with Chinese Taipei, the team they had beaten 3-0 in the pool plays, in the Monday’s 5th-6th place playoff, while Thailand and Kuwait battle it out for 7th position.
