SECOND VICTORY FOR VIETNAM WITH STRAIGHT-SETS MATCH ON IRAN

Pasig City, Philippines, August 23, 2022  – Tran Thi Thanh Thuy captained Vietnam’s second win in Pool A of the preliminary round of the 2022 AVC Cup for Women after a straight-sets match, 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-11) against Iran.

The Vietnamese captain and outside hitter led all scorers on the field with 21 points from 20 attacks and a service ace.

Vietnam gained good rhythm in the match as they could set up their captain consistently and rather successfully from the flanks. They likewise showed good coverage and passing, which brought in fluidity in their plays.

The Vietnamese were likewise able to run the middle game quite effectively. Tran Thi Bich Thuy activated the middle attack. Their frontline also lined up an effectively block formation, even against a taller line-up.

Captain and opposite Mahsa Kadkhoda was Iran’s go-to option on offense, She completed the match with 10 points made purely on attack. However, the Iran team could not seem to establish nor maintain their rhythm; neither in offense, nor defense. They suffered from unforced errors, which only saw their opponents picking up good momentum for the straight-sets victory.

On Wednesday, August 24, Vietnam will take on Korea in the opening match at 13:00 Philippine time. Iran will play against hosts Philippines in the main match at 19:00 Philippine time at Pasig City’s PhilSports Arena.
