Cal Adds Sierra Caffo To Beach Team

AVCA Top Flight Member Sierra Caffo Joins Bears

BERKELEY – Cal beach volleyball head coach Meagan Owusu announced the addition of transfer Sierra Caffo to the program on Wednesday.

Caffo joins after spending three seasons at Louisiana State, including a very successful 2022 season. She went 27-6 this season, including a 23-5 mark while playing at the No. 5 spot for the Tigers. She recorded 12 victories over ranked opponents this year and was named AVCA Top Flight status alongside partner Elle Shank as the duo went 15-3 on court five together.

Caffo was named to the CCSA All-Tournament team alongside partner Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope as the duo went 4-1 at the No. 5 spot, recording wins over three teams that were ranked or receiving votes in No. 19 South Carolina, Tulane and No. 4 Florida State. Caffo will join the Bears with three years of eligibility remaining and will be majoring in Media Studies at Cal.

She was part of the No. 5 pair for LSU that won the decisive point in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as No. 6 LSU knocked out No. 11 Cal. She also won a three-set match as LSU eliminated No. 2 TCU from the NCAA Tournament.

“We are thrilled about Sierra joining the Cal Beach family,” Owusu said. “Not only will she contribute from a performance standpoint but she is also a natural leader. She is going to make an immediate impact on this program.”

Caffo is a California native as she hails from San Diego and attended Point Loma High School. She compiled a 30-6 record in the summer before college, highlighted by a win at the AA CBVA Women’s Open on Ocean Beach in San Diego along with top-four finishes at the 18U Gold Bracket AAU Championships on Hermosa Beach and the 18U USA Championships on Manhattan Beach. She was an AVCA High School All-American as a senior.

While playing indoors, Caffo led her high school to 2016 and 2017 Southern California Championship and a 2017 D3 CIF State Championship. She was a two-time team captain and a three-time honor roll recipient.

She is the second transfer to join the Bears this summer, joining Liz Waters-Leiga from Florida State. She is also Cal’s second transfer from LSU in as many years, joining former teammate Natalie Martin who won 22 matches for the Bears in 2022.
