Wolverines Rally Past Ramblers to Close Michigan Invitational With Five-Set Win

ANN ARBOR, Mich.Kendall Murray, Jess Mruzik and Jess Robinson combined for 52 kills to lead the way for the University of Michigan in the five-set (25-23, 22-25, 28-30, 25-16, 15-9) come-from-behind win over Loyola Chicago on Saturday night (Sept. 3) at Cliff Keen Arena in the finale of the Michigan Invitational.

Murray led the way for Wolverines with 19 kills, while Dowd led the field with 49 assists. Hannah Grant led Michigan in digs (22) and in service aces (three).

In a nailbiter of a first set, there were three lead changes and 10 ties. Robinson hit 83 percent in the set, recording five kills on six attempts. A Mruzik slam tied the set at 21 before the Ramblers took a two-point lead. Jacque Boney stepped up at the net to provide two massive blocks over the final four points to push U-M past Loyola Chicago to take the first set.

The second set was just as close as the first, but this one went to the Ramblers. Loyola Chicago pulled out to a seven-point lead late in the set. Dowd went on a five-point serving run to pull Michigan within three, but Loyola capitalized on a couple of Wolverine errors.
