2022 AVCA Week 1 poll: CMS in pace car

Burns promoted from assistant to head coach at Rockford

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps claimed the top spot in the 2022 Week 1 poll. The Athenas are followed by No. 2 Trinity (Texas), No. 3 Calvin, No. 4 Juniata and No. 5 Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which entered the year at No. 1.

Rounding out the Week 1 top 10 are No. 6 Hope, No. 7 Johns Hopkins, No. 8 NYU, No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater and MIT.

Other Region VIII/IX teams in the Week 1 top 25: No. 12 Northwestern; No. 17 Gustavus Adolphus; No. 18 Wartburg; No. 24 Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Region VIII/IX teams receiving votes this week: St. Olaf; Bethel; Wisconsin-Oshkosh; Aurora; Washington-St. Louis; Augsburg; Carthage; Chicago; Coe; Illinois Wesleyan; Cornell; Transylvania.

My Week 1 top 10 had Northwestern, Berry and Otterbein instead of the AVCA’s Hope, Johns Hopkins and Wisconsin-Whitewater.
