Alabama Volleyball Falls to Green Bay and Ball State Friday


MUNCIE, Ind. – Alabama volleyball fell in a pair of hard-fought contests Friday, dropping a pair of four-set losses to Green Bay and Ball State.

Alabama (4-3) won a hard-fought opening set against Green Bay (4-3) and scored four unanswered to start the second and third sets but ultimately fell to the Phoenix in four sets. The Crimson Tide was in control for the majority of the first set in the second match of the day against Ball State (6-1) but a late 7-0 run from the Cardinals pushed them to a narrow win in the opener. Alabama rebounded with a four-point win in the second but Ball State posted a double-digit win in the third to take a 2-1 match lead. The Tide reached set point in the fourth, 24-23, but the Cardinals closed it out with a 4-2 run to take the frame and the match.

Kendyl Reaugh led the team with 26 combined kills on the day, tying her career high with 16 against Green Bay and posting a double-double (10 kills, 11 digs) against Ball State. Alyiah Wells (15 kills, 10 blocks) and Brooke Slusser (44 assists, 15 digs) also tallied double-doubles against the Cardinals, with Wells hitting a combined .327 between both matches.

  • Sydney Gholson made her season debut in the match against Green Bay, tallying a career-best three service aces, all of which came consecutively in the first set
  • Brooke Slusser’s four aces against the Phoenix ties her career best, set last season at LSU (Sept. 25, 2021)
  • Kendyl Reaugh’s 16 kills vs. Green Bay ties her career high, marking the second time this season and sixth time in her career she has reached that total
  • Victoria Schmer’s 18 digs against the Phoenix ties her career high, set earlier this season against Southern Miss (Aug. 27)
  • Three different players tallied double-doubles against Ball State: Alyiah Wells (15 kills, 10 blocks), Brooke Slusser (44 assists, 15 digs) and Kendyl Reaugh (10 kills, 11 digs)
  • Wells’ 15 kills and 10 blocks against the Cardinals were each one shy of her career best
