Cortland Beats #19 Susquehanna, Rallies Past Haverford, During Day 2 of Ford Invite

HAVERFORD, PA. – Cortland posted two victories during Day 2 of the Haverford College Women’s Volleyball Ford Invitational, knocking off nationally 19th-ranked Susquehanna in four sets and rallying from a two-set deficit for a five-set win over the host school. The Red Dragons improved to 5-1 on the season after going 2-1 at the tournament.
 
Cortland defeated Susquehanna, 21-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-20. Statistics from this match are not available yet. Once the stats are compiled the story will be updated.
 
The Red Dragons finished the day with a thrilling 21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-23, 17-15 win over Haverford. Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) led Cortland with 18 kills and added five blocks, Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) totaled a career-high 15 kills with just one error in 33 attempts (.424) and had four blocks, and Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) finished with 10 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Staats and Sturgess were named to the all-tournament team.
 
Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park) led Cortland with eight blocks. Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) had a team-best 27 digs, Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) dished out 18 assists and served foru aces and Megan McMahon (Ballston Spa) had 17 assists.
 
Eliana Brown, Taylor Jones and Claire Jordan led Haverford (4-3) with 12 kills each.
 
Cortland trailed 22-19 in the third set and was three points from being swept before scoring five straight points to take a 24-22 lead. Sturgess and Guedez put down kills during that run, and two points later Guedez had a kill to give Cortland the set.
