Women’s Volleyball Drops Two in West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, WV. – The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team lost both its matches on Thursday afternoon down in West Virginia. The first match was against the host school West Virginia University and the second was a match up against Delaware State.

  • An Avery Brown kill gave the Warriors a one-point lead early on. Lauryn Mattiucci had a service ace to tie the set at seven. The Mountaineers when went up 15-8. Julz Carlat had a kill to put Merrimack within six. West Virginia then scored eight of the last nine points of the set to win. In the second set the Warriors found themselves down six early on. Brown had a kill late in the set, but it was not enough to give the Warriors a set victory. In the third set the Warriors jumped out to a four-point lead, highlighted by a Sydney Green kill. Cate Wright had a kill to put Merrimack up three. The Mountaineers then scored 12 straight points to flip the game and go up eight. The Warriors made it a game down the stretch, but untimely droppedthe third set.
