Offense Struggles In Loss At Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – The offense struggled as Sun Devil Volleyball fell at Colorado in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-17) on Sunday afternoon.

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (7-7, 1-1 Pac-12) was stifled by the defense from Colorado (10-2, 2-0 Pac-12), who had 60 digs to ASU’s 39. 
  • The Sun Devils did win the battle at the net, out-blocking the Buffs eight to six. Juniors Marta Levinska and Claudia Stahlke both had five blocks in the match, which is a season high for Stahlke and matches a season best for Levinska. Another junior in Claire Jeter added three blocks of her own.
  • Seniors Iman Isanovic and Annika Larson-Nummer both led the team in kills and digs, respectively. Isanovic had eight kills while Larson-Nummer notched 10 digs, her third match in a row reaching double figures. 
  • Setting the majority of the match was junior Ella Snyder, who had 15 assists. Senior Shannon Shields came in the third set and saw some action as well.

Set One: CU 25, ASU 18
The Sun Devils jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the first set but fell behind after a 5-0 scoring run by the Buffs. Although they kept it close in the first half of the set, ASU could never quite regain the lead after that, as Colorado was able to side out consistently. The team as a whole had nine kills in the first set. 

Set Two: CU 25, ASU 15

Similarly to the first set, ASU got out to a small lead before allowing Colorado to go on a scoring run. A 5-0 by the Buffs allowed them to take an 8-4 lead. They would hold the lead remainder of the set. A late kill from Roberta Rabelo and a late block from Levinska…
