TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — In just her second start of the season, outside hitter Nena Mbonu had 10 kills, hitting .565, to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Louisville to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 sweep of Florida State in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action Sunday in Tully Gym.
Mbonu, filling in for injured All-American starter Anna DeBeer, had a season-high outing on offense for the Cards.
Louisville extends its unbeaten streak in ACC play to 31 straight matches and now stands at 11-1 overall and moves to 2-0 in ACC play. Claire Chaussee had a team-high 12 kills with an ace and two blocks. Phekran Kong had four kills and five blocks. Libero Elena Scott had 14 digs and an ace with setter Raquel Lazaro adding 32 assists and three blocks. The Cardinals hit .284 as a team with eight aces and 11 blocks.
Florida State hit .093 as a team and had three aces and five blocks. The Seminoles were paced by Audrey Koenig’s 14 kills. Emily Ryan had seven kills and four blocks. FSU is now 9-4 and 1-1 in ACC play.
The win snapped FSU’s home match winning streak at six.
The Cardinals return home to face Clemson on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then host Georgia Tech Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. on ESPN for the third time the Cards’ have been televised on the flagship station.
