SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse Volleyball took down conference foe Duke in four sets on Friday afternoon inside the Women’s Building on the Campus of Syracuse University. The final score was 3-1, in favor of the Orange.
Duke (9-3,0-1 ACC) captured its first and only set of the day (18-25) before Syracuse (6-6,2-0 ACC) stepped in and stole the show (25-19, 25-22, 25-21), securing victory over the Blue Devils. In their only losing set of the day the Orange fell by seven points, the three following sets were decided by a margin of six points or less.
The Orange paced the day in kills (44-43), assists (40-35), and digs (57-49). On the other side of the court, the Blue Devils led in points (63-59) and blocks (14-9). Both squads had six aces apiece.
Graduate Polina Shemanova led ‘Cuse with a double-double, registering 14 kills and 20 digs. Junior Naomi Franco followed with 12 massive kills in today’s victory. The setting duo of Riley Hoffman and Lauren Woodford combined for a total of 33 assists, just two less than Duke’s total.
The Orange will be back in action next week for their first conference road test of the season, as the squad is set to face Wake Forest on Friday, Sept. 30th (7 p.m.), and Virginia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 2nd (1 p.m.). Both matches will stream live on ACCNX.
