Cardinal Tames Cougars – Stanford University Athletics

STANFORD, Calif. – Middle blocker Sami Francis returned to the lineup helping propel No. 9 Stanford to a 25-19, 16-25, 25-15, 25-23 win over Washington State, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (8-4, 3-1 Pac-12) came-from-behind in the fourth set to seal the victory over the Cougars (10-5, 2-2 Pac-12). The Cardinal, which posted 14.0 blocks and eight aces, reeled off seven of the final nine points of the match.

Francis, who missed the previous three matches due to injury, posted nine kills, seven blocks and three digs in her return, including a kill on match point. Opposite Kendall Kipp led the team with 13 kills and a career-high six aces. The senior also collected four digs and three blocks.

 



In recognition of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Stanford wore pink and white jerseys which were auctioned off prior to the match. The Cardinal raised $6,456.03 for the Women’s Cancer Center and Stanford Medicine.

Redshirt junior outside hitter Caitie Baird registered nine kills, 12 digs and three blocks, while freshman outside hitter Elia Rubin added eight kills, two blocks and a team-high 16 digs. Redshirt junior McKenna Vicini was solid in the middle, posting four kills on .400 hitting and six blocks.
