Duke Secures 3-1 Win Over Virginia

DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory (25-14, 25-14, 16-25, 28-26) over Virginia Sunday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

How it Happened

  • Gracie Johnson tallied her second double-double of the season with 18 kills and 10 digs to spearhead Duke’s offense. She also added an ace and a season-high four blocks in her all-around performance. 
  • Freshman Kerry Keefe had a career day with 14 kills and just three errors on 27 swings to hit .407 percent to go along with an ace, four digs and two blocks. Fellow classmate Taylor Atkinson also tallied 12 kills to help pace the offensive unit. 
  • Graduate setter Devon Chang dished 46 assists, while libero Nikki Underwood collected 17 digs. At the net, Georgia Stavrinides tallied a career-high five blocks as Duke recorded 16 total blocks. 
  • The Blue Devils came out hot to start the match hitting .433 percent as Johnson knocked down four quick kills to hit .400. Duke used an 8-0 run to jump out to a 17-8 lead and ran away with the first set.
  • Much like the first set, Duke used a fast start to take a 15-4 lead in the second as Johnson and Rylie Kadel each hit .800 percent and limited the Cavaliers to a negative percentage. 
  • Trailing 2-0, Virginia posted a .458 clip in the third to force a fourth set. 
  • Duke’s block came alive in the fourth and final set with 10 blocks, led by Stavrinides and Johnson with four and three, respectively. Duke battled through 13 tie scores and two Virginia set points to secure its first…
