Polina Shemanova Earns ACC Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Polina Shemanova is the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Shemanova led Syracuse to a 2-0 weekend on the road with victories over Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. The St. Petersburg, Russia native posted double-digit kills and recorded a .404 hitting clip across the two victories. In the match against Wake Forest, Shemanova hit a season-high 28 kills. Against Virginia Tech on Sunday the outside hitter locked in 24 kills and an impressive .500% hitting clip. Shemanova also recorded 33 digs, an average of 3.64 per set, and added one block and one ace.

After Shemanova’s 52 kills weekend she is rapidly approaching the all-time career kills record. As she needs 25 kills to tie (26 to obtain) Dana Fiume’s (1,698) career record, which was set in 2000.

The Orange are currently undefeated in league play and are on a four-match hot streak in ACC Play, a conference streak to open league action that the squad has not seen since the 2018 season.

Syracuse will return to the Hill for a two-match home stand, facing Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 7th at 7 p.m. and No. 2 Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 9th at 1 p.m. Sunday’s matchup against Louisville will be the program’s first meeting against a ranked opponent this season.
