COLUMBIA, Ky. – With one month remaining in the regular season, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team sits three games out of first place in the Mid-South Conference standings, and this weekend the Blue Raiders will have an opportunity to gain some ground in that race as they travel north to Crestview Hills to challenge Thomas More University.
The Saints (12-7, 6-0 MSC) are one of two undefeated teams left standing in league play entering this weekend. However, that will change on Friday evening when fellow unbeaten Campbellsville University makes a stop at the Connor Convocation Center.
Since starting the 2022 season with five wins in its first 11 matches, Thomas More is 7-1, including, most recently, a weekend sweep of Tennessee foes Bethel University and Freed-Hardeman University.
Led by the offensive quartet of Ally Albrinck, Sydney Hilderbran, Jess Gearries, and Sawyer Lorentz, the Saints average 11.9 kills per set, but actively rank eighth in the conference in overall attack percentage with a mark of 0.175.
Still committed at the net, Thomas More boasts the third-highest blocks per set average in the league (1.90), paced by Lorentz and Hilderbran, who both sport top-five totals of 39.5 and 36.5, respectively.
On the other side of the floor, the Blue Raiders (8-9, 4-3 MSC) are rolling off of a successful homestand that saw them win their last two matches behind a combined attack percentage of 0.327.
Much like Thomas More, Lindsey Wilson features a dynamic foursome of offensive threats as Alix Stoermer (137 kills), Alexis Smith (136), Madison Bidwell (133), and Savanah Pippin (131) continue to strike down opponents with a collective attacking mark of 0.257.
Defensively, Natalie Ackermann, Camryn Rich, and Embry Burgess pilot the local’s backline with 204, 177, and 123 digs, individually.
An additional aspect of the Blue Raiders’ game that has taken center stage recently is their efforts from the service line. Over the last four outings, Lindsey Wilson has distributed 40 aces, including 10 or more in three of those matches. Ackermann, Burgess, and Elisa Burzio each have over 20 service aces on the season, while Logan Seagraves is coming off a Blue Raiders’ season-best five against Pikeville last Friday.
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between Thomas More and Lindsey Wilson on the volleyball court. The Blue Raiders have never lost to their in-state rival, and they will look to continue that success at 12…
