Duke Falls to Florida State on the Road

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Duke volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-23, 25-22, 25-11) to Florida State Friday evening in Tallahassee, Fla. 

How it Happened

  • Duke was led on the offensive front by freshman Taylor Atkinson and senior Gracie Johnson with 10 kills each while Sydney Yap paced the defense with 11 digs. Graduate setter Devon Chang dished 20 assists while Georgia Stavrinides and Rylie Kadel added three blocks apiece. Kadel notched two solo blocks on the night while Johnson and Nikki Underwood each tallied two aces. 
  • The Seminoles took an early 1-0 lead despite both squads struggling to find offensive rhythm. The first set was a series of runs by both teams, but Duke couldn’t close out late despite holding a slight 22-20 edge. Johnson led the way with six kills while Yap racked up seven quick digs. 
  • Florida State led 2-0 after hitting .250 percent in the second frame with 10 kills and just three errors on 28 swings. 
  • Duke’s block was shut down in the third and final set as Florida State captured its 12th win of the season. The Seminoles closed out the match hitting an impressive .520 with 14 kills, led by Emily Ryan who hit .875 percent.

  • Duke moves to 10-6 overall and 1-4 in ACC action.
  • The Blue Devils move to 37-25 all-time against the Seminoles and have lost 10 consecutive. 
  • Duke has notched at least one ace in every match this season.
