LOS ANGELES – Tristin Savage recorded a career-high six kills and five blocks in her first start of the season as the UCLA women’s volleyball team swept Oregon State (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Friday night.
Savage tallied the Bruins’ (9-7, 3-4 Pac-12) first point of every set as well notched back-to-back kills midway through the third to tie and then give UCLA a 10-9 lead which they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match.
As a team, UCLA hit for 44 kills at .360 while holding Oregon State (6-11, 1-6 Pac-12) to .149. Graduate outside hitter élan McCall led the scoring for the Bruins with 14 kills at a .407 clip. Middle blocker Anna Dodson also had an efficient night with seven kills at .455 to go along with a career-high three service aces.
Setter Matti McKissock had 37 assists and six digs while libero Mackenzie Cole led UCLA with 11 digs.
Set 1
After jockeying back and forth to 16-16 in set one, the Bruins manufactured a 5-0 run behind two McCall kills and a block by Savage and Iman Ndiaye to force a Beaver timeout.
UCLA wouldn’t look back, taking the set 25-19.
Set 2
The Bruins settled down from eight attack errors in the opening set to hit .519 in set two with 15 kills and just one error. McCall led the Bruins with five kills in the frame.
Dodson pushed UCLA out to a four-point buffer in set two at 11-7 with back-to-back aces, both being served beyond 10 feet from the service line.
