Women’s Volleyball Falls to Hartwick on Saturday Afternoon

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team dropped its Saturday afternoon matchup to the hosts from Hartwick College, falling 3-1. After taking the first set which Elmira had to score 26 points to secure victory, the Hawks would go on to take the next three sets with its smallest margin of victory being nine points. 

The Soaring Eagles were paced by Maddie Boucher ’24, who recorded eight kills while Asia Curkendall ’25 and Morgan Richardson ’25 each chipped in seven kills. 

JUST THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elmira 1, Hartwick 3

LOCATION: Oneonta, N.Y. | Lambos Arena

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (7-17, 2-5 E8), Russell Sage (15-4, 6-1 Empire 8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Soaring Eagles and Hawks went back and forth in the first set, each scoring in bunches. With Elmira holding on to a 9-7 lead, EC would score three consecutive points on a kill from Boucher and a pair of attacking errors from Hartwick to go ahead 22-17 in the frame.

From there, the Hawks would score five straight of their own to even the set at 22 before Elmira would score four of the final six points, capped by a kill from Curkendall. EC hit just .071% in the frame, compared to .051% for Hartwick in its 26-24 first set win. 

The Hawks would quickly increase its hitting percentage of the final three sets, posting percentages of .269, .440, and .471 over the final three frames. 

UP NEXT:

The Soaring Eagles will return home for its final four matches of the season, beginning with SUNY Delhi on Tuesday, October 18. First serve is set for 6:00 PM inside Speidel Gymnasium.
