SAN FRANCISCO — Washington State volleyball senior middle blocker, Magda Jehlarova, was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 1.50 blocks per set with 1.88 kill/set to help the Cougars sweep the Arizona schools at home in Bohler Gym this past weekend.
Jehlarova had three solo blocks and eight total on Friday night as the Cougars defeated Arizona in five sets. She then moved into third all-time in WSU history in career solo blocks (99) on Sunday in Washington State’s sweep over Arizona State. Jehlarova finished Sunday with seven kills (7-1-13, .462) and three total blocks as the Cougars held Arizona State to just .185 hitting for the match.
The weekly award is Jehlarova’s second Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week nod after receiving the award back on Oct. 3 in the wake of her record-setting 11 blocks on the road at Cal. It is also the ninth time in her career that Jehlarova has been recognized by the conference with a weekly award and the seventh defensive player of the week honor of her career.
Washington State volleyball will host the Bay Area schools this weekend in Bohler Gym beginning with a rematch against seventh-ranked Stanford on Friday night at 7 p.m., before wrapping up its four-match home stand on Sunday against Cal starting at 12 p.m.
