Commonwealth Clash on deck for Hokies


BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech volleyball team is back home this weekend and welcomes Virginia and No. 7 Pitt to Cassell Coliseum. The Commonwealth Clash match between Virginia and Virginia Tech will take place on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. The Hokies will then take on Pitt on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
 
THINGS TO KNOW
 
Scouting Virginia
 
Virginia is 2-8 in ACC play after sweeping Notre Dame last weekend. Leading the ‘Hoos are graduate student Grace Turner, graduate student Gabby Easton and sophomore Abby Tadder. Turner is currently ranked seventh in the ACC in service aces with a total of 33 and an average of 0.39 per set. Easton leads UVA in assists with a total of 459 and an average of 5.40 per set. Tadder is another offensive leader, ranking sixth in the ACC in hitting percentage with a percentage of .357.
 
Scouting Pitt
 
Pitt is ranked No. 7 is this week’s AVCA poll and is 10-0 in ACC play after defeating No. 2 Louisville last weekend. Leading the Panthers are graduate students Serena Gray and Courtney Buzzerio, as well as sophomore Rachel Fairbanks. Gray is ranked first in the ACC and 9th in the NCAA in hitting percentage with a .416. Buzzerio is ranked seventh in the ACC in kills with a total of 288 and an average of 3.65 per set. Fairbanks is ranked eighth in the ACC in assists with a total of 539 with an average of 6.91 per set.
 
Commonwealth Clash
 
Smithfield, the presenting sponsor of the Commonwealth Clash, enters its second year sponsoring the friendly, statewide rivalry between Virginia Tech and Virginia. With 22 individual event points on the line, the school that accumulates 11.5 or more points is crowned the winner and takes home the Commonwealth Clash trophy. Conquering the ‘Hoos
 
Tech is currently on a three-game streak against Virginia. Last year, the Hokies beat UVA 3-2 in a tight five-set match.. During the game, Brie Postema earned a career-high 47 assists over the five sets and Cera Powell earned a season-high 17 kills. 
 
Logan Mosley

Over the weekend, Logan Mosley moved into the top-10 in school history in career digs. She now sits 8th in school history with 1,246.
