Four Cortland teams will be competing at home in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason action on Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 2-5. Conference tournament champions in each of the four sports earn automatic berths into the NCAA Division III playoffs.
* The women’s soccer team (12-1-3, 8-0-1 SUNYAC), ranked 20th nationally in Division III, won the SUNYAC regular-season title and earned a bye into the semifinals of the six-team conference tournament. The Red Dragons will host fifth-seeded Oswego (9-5-4, 3-3-3 SUNYAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 2:30 p.m. in a semifinal contest at Holloway Field. Oswego defeated Plattsburgh, 1-0 in overtime, in the quarterfinals last Saturday. The winner will play either second-seeded Geneseo or third-seeded New Paltz in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 5, at a time to be determined. If Cortland wins its semifinal game, it will host the championship.
* The men’s soccer team (12-4-2, 6-1-2 SUNYAC) won the SUNYAC regular-season title and earned a bye into the semifinals of the six-team conference tournament. The Red Dragons will host fourth-seeded Brockport (8-3-6, 6-2-1 SUNYAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. in a semifinal contest at Holloway Field. The Golden Eagles advanced past Geneseo in penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie in the quarterfinals last Saturday. The winner will play either second-seeded Oneonta or sixth-seeded Plattsburgh in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 5, at a time to be determined. If Cortland wins in the semifinals, it will host the championship game.
* The field hockey team (12-4, 5-1 SUNYAC) finished second during the SUNYAC regular season and will host third-seeded Oneonta (7-9, 4-2 SUNYAC) in the semifinals of the four-team league tournament Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. at the Cortland Stadium Complex. The winner will play either fourth-seeded New Paltz or top-seeded Geneseo in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the highest remaining seed.
* The women’s volleyball team (19-5, 9-0 SUNYAC) won the SUNYAC regular-season title to earn a bye into the semifinals and earn the right to host the league semifinals and finals Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5. Semifinal action at Corey Gymnasium begins Friday at 4 p.m. with Cortland facing either fourth-seeded Geneseo or fifth-seeded Oswego, while second-seeded Brockport will play either third-seeded New Paltz or sixth-seeded Buffalo…
