COLUMBIA, Ky. – At Biggers Sports Center, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team celebrated its latest senior class in style, handling Shawnee State University in a three-set decision on Sunday afternoon.
The victory pushes the Blue Raiders’ win streak to a season-long four matches and secures them the fourth seed in this week’s Mid-South Conference tournament.
Lindsey Wilson finished the match with another stellar hitting percentage at 0.320. It is the second different time this season that the locals have hit plus-0.300 in back-to-back matches. The first instance came back in August at the Vette City Classic.
Aleksandra Wyrzkowska tied a personal season-best with 13 kills to pace the Blue Raiders’ attack, followed by 11 successful strikes from Elizabeth Moore, her second-highest output of the year.
Elsewhere offensively, Camryn Rich passed out a match-high 38 assists, which are the most by any Blue Raider this season in a three-set contest.
Lindsey Wilson and Shawnee State traded points in the opening stages of the first set. Consecutive kills by Savanah Pippin and Wyrzkowska eventually propelled the Blue Raiders ahead, 10-5. Then, a subsequently, a 10-2 run by the home side put the lead well out of reach for the Bears, resulting in a 25-18 opening set win to put the locals off on the right foot.
The middle frame was all Blue Raiders. A 5-1 start quickly escalated into an unassailable 14-3 advantage, with Elisa Burzio, Alexis Smith, and Moore each providing some offense for the home team. From there, the visitors ran into a road block of errors, allowing Lindsey Wilson to post a seven-point swing and extend their cushion to 21-5 to help them claim the set convincingly, 25-11.
