Set by Set Recap

Set 1

The Cardinals had to use a timeout early in the first set when they fell behind five at 8-3. After the huddle, Louisville managed to tied at 14 on a Claire Chaussee kill and then took their first lead  at 16-15 on a kill by Nena Mbonu. The Heels took the lead back at 19-18 on a kill by Merkler. The Cards took the lead back at 21-20 on a UNC and after scoring two straight the Tar Heels called timeout down two at 22-20.  The 5-0 Cardinal run put the Cards up 23-21 and another Chaussee kill gave the Cards to set point and a UNC hitting error by Charley Niego gave the Cards the 25-22 win.  UofL hit .154 with three blocks.

Set 2

A 7-1 scoring run took the Cards up 21-10 as  -.139 hitting by Carolina put UNC back on its heels.  Six blocks by Louisville combined with .388 hitting was too much to overcome for the Heels as they fell 25-11.

Set 3

After being tied at four, UofL went on a 6-1 run to go up 10-5 in the third set. UNC was able to string three straight points to pull within four at 12-8.  Claire Chaussee got her ninth kill of the day to give UofL a seven-point lead at 17-10 to force a Carolina timeout.  The Cardinals slowly pulled away and an Aiko Jones kill took them to set and match point. UNC scored once more when Mabrey Shaffmaster got her tenth kill to stave off the Cards before Chaussee connected with a Raquel Lazaro set for the match winner.
