SAN FRANCISCO — Washington State senior outside hitter, Pia Timmer, was named the Pac-12’s Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday. Timmer averaged 4.57 kills/set and earned her third double-double of the season with 19 kills and 11 digs in Sunday’s four-set win at Arizona.
The award is the third weekly award for Timmer during her four-year career at WSU after earning offensive player of the week honors twice last season. Timmer finished with a match-high 13 kills and had nine with zero errors in the third set to help lead Washington State to its 12th sweep of the season in Friday’s match at Arizona. She again got better as the match progressed Sunday at Arizona and helped WSU close out the match with a team-leading eight kills in the fourth set.
The senior hitter from Emlichheim, Germany, moved into a tie for ninth all-time at WSU in career kills (1,180) with her team-leading 19 on Sunday. Timmer, a first team All Pac-12 selection last season, has posted double-digit kills in five straight matches and 17 total matches this season.
The 25th-ranked Cougars return home this week for a stretch of four home matches in seven days as it closes out the regular season from Bohler Gym starting with Utah and Colorado on Friday Nov. 18 and Sunday Nov. 20, respectively. Washington State will then turn around to host a Tuesday matchup with UCLA on Nov. 22 before its season finale on Friday, Nov. 25, against 20th-ranked Washington.
