FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Alabama volleyball fell to Arkansas, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Barnhill Arena by set scores of 10-25, 19-25 and 21-25 to open the weekend series between the teams.
Alabama (9-18, 3-12 SEC) trailed early after a 7-1 Arkansas (16-8, 7-7 SEC) run in the opening set, forcing an early Tide timeout. The Razorbacks extended their lead to nine points at Alabama’s second timeout, 15-6, and the home team scored five more unanswered after the break to lead by double digits and eventually win the set, 25-10. Trailing 16-10 in set two, Alabama fought back to cut the deficit in half at 18-15 but Arkansas answered right back with three in a row to move back up by six, 21-15, and the Tide took a timeout. The Razorbacks held on to win by the same margin, 25-19. In the third, the score was tied five times by the time it was 8-8 and Alabama rallied later to tie it a sixth time at 14-14, with a service ace from Victoria Schmer capping a 3-0 run. Knotted up again two points later at 15-15, the Razorbacks would retake the lead and hold it the rest of the way, winning 25-21 to complete the sweep.
