COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland volleyball middle blocker Anastasia Russ was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Russ tallied 15 total blocks this past weekend, including nine solo stuffs, while also adding 20 kills in Maryland’s two weekend matches. Tying a season high, Russ recorded 11 blocks in Friday night’s match, leading the Terps to a 3-1 victory over #5 Ohio State.
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native is currently #3 in the nation for total blocks with 167 on the season. Russ’ defensive efforts have played a big role all season as the Terps maintain the top spot in the nation for total blocks with 361.
This marks the second time Russ has won this Big Ten weekly honor this season, the other coming on October 17th after Maryland defeated #9 Purdue.
