GLENSIDE, Pa. – EMU continued its Pennsylvania road trip on Sunday, with a rematch against Baruch and a matchup against New Jersey City University.
The Royals swept the Bearcats 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-23) before falling to NJCU 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 11-15).

Set One
Baruch jumped out to a 6-3 lead before EMU tied it up with three straight points from Tyler Oaks and David Ward. The teams traded points to Baruch holding a slim one-point lead, 17-16. The Royals rallied for a 3-0 run with a kill from Ben Childers, an Oaks/Childers block and a kill from Nate McGhee to take a two-point advantage and force Baruch to call timeout. Out of the break, the teams once again traded points to 25-all before an error and another Oaks/Childers block gave EMU a 1-0 lead.
Set Two
With things tied at nine, EMU scored three straight with kills from Ward and AJ Bagby along with a Bagby/Walter Spurlock block. They were able to extend their lead to 17-11 before Baruch pulled within two. Once again, the teams battled with Baruch tying things at 24 before kills from Spurlock and McGhee pushed EMU ahead 2-0.
Set Three
EMU jumped out to a 9-6 lead in set three but Baruch answered with seven of the next nine points to pull ahead 13-11. The Bearcats took a 21-16 lead, causing EMU to call timeout but out of the break, the Royals went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by kills from Ward, Childers and Spurlock along with a Spurlock solo block and another block from Childers and Spurlock. The Bearcats picked up two straight to take a 23-22 lead but EMU wasn’t about to let the set slip away, using a pair of errors and a final block from Oaks and Childers to secure the win.
