Local Product Mary Shroll Joins Sun Devil Volleyball

TEMPE – Head coach JJ Van Niel and Sun Devil Volleyball are adding Tempe native Mary Shroll to the 2023 roster, a grad transfer libero from Loyola Marymount.

“We are so excited to bring Mary home!” Van Niel said. “She is a great fit for this program and brings a lot of talent and experience to the back row. Her depth at the libero position will create good competition in the gym to elevate the whole team. We are thrilled to have a local Tempe product join us to further the vision of Sun Devil Volleyball.”

Shroll comes to ASU from LMU in the West Coast Conference, fresh off of an appearance in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. After redshirting her freshman year in 2019, she saw significant time the following three seasons, playing in almost every match. She saw time as both the libero and a defensive specialist. In her career, she has 884 digs, 223 assists and 64 aces. She has 46 matches with double-digit digs, with her career high being 34, which she earned in the 2020-21 spring season. In 2020-21, she led the team and was third in the WCC with 4.26 digs per set. She also led the team with 264 digs that season and in 2022, when she had 327 total digs.

In high school, she was a four-year letter winner at Corona Del Sol High School, where she was a team captain for three years. She was 2018 Team MVP Central Division First Team and an Under Armor All-American Nominee. She also was the Tempe All-City Sports Award winner. For the 2017 season, she was the team MVP and 2A Conference Player of the Year and All-Conference First Team.
