Back on the Road for Boise Classic


EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon beach volleyball team is on the road for the Boise Classic, a two-day round robin that begins Friday afternoon. The Ducks’ weekend starts at 12 p.m. (PT) against Arizona Christian followed by a 4 p.m. match with host Boise State, the third meeting between the two teams this year.

Last Time Out
Oregon improved to 2-0 on its home courts and snapped a modest two-match skid with a 3-2 win over Corban (March 23) at Amazon Park. The Ducks picked up dual wins in the top three spots of the lineup, and added a fourth in exhibition play. Playing at No. 1 pairs for the first time this season, Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton extended their winning streak to five in a row.
 
Tyus and Wetton lead the team with 11 wins this season. Playing in the No. 2 spot, Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown snapped a seven-match slide to secure the Ducks’ first point against Corban. The duo of Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder are 4-2 in six matches playing at the No. 3 spot, and are second on the team with nine wins.
 
The Field
Arizona Christian (7-12) is Oregon’s first opponent Friday and enters the weekend having lost its last eight matches. The Firestorm are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national poll. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
 
Boise State (14-5) has won eight of its last 10 matches but dropped its last outing to then-No. 12 Long Beach State on March 21. Ava Anderson and Rorianna Chartier lead the Broncos with 10 wins and BSU won the first two matches against Oregon this year, 3-2 and 4-1.
 
Utah (5-13) has lost six of its last seven coming into the Boise Classic with 4-1 setback to then No. 13 Long Beach State in its last outing. At the top of the lineup, Katie McAlister and Amaya Messier have seven wins this year. Oregon has won four of the past five matches against Utah with three of those coming at the Pac-12 Tournament.
 
What’s Next?
The league’s best gather at Stanford for the Pac-12 North Invitational (April 7-8). The Ducks will face Arizona State, USC, Utah and host Stanford. Click HERE for the full 2023 schedule
