CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball head coach Shannon Wells announced the signing of graduate transfer Regan Trueblood on Friday (June 2). A setter from Joliet, Illinois, Trueblood played three seasons (2020-22) at University of Illinois Springfield, a Division II program in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
Trueblood becomes the fifth member of the Cavaliers’ 2023 signing class, joining Lauryn Bowie, Nala Cornegy, Meredith Reeg and Lily Gervase. Trueblood is slated to begin training with UVA this summer.
“After my first phone call with Regan, I knew she would be a great fit for our program on and off the court,” said Wells. “She is a fierce competitor and invested learner. She is going to come in with a little chip on her shoulder to prove she belongs at this level. Regan is excited to be part of this program and make history. I’m very excited to see just how quickly she can make an impact on our program.”
After a three-year career at UIS, Trueblood finished fifth on the Prairie Stars’ all-time assists list (1,186). She is also No. 8 in UIS single-season history in assists (780) and tied for third in service aces (33), both of which marks she set in 2022. Last season, she tallied 10 double-doubles, including when she dished out a career-high 49 assists and 16 digs in the Prairie Stars’ win over Southwest Baptist. Trueblood is also a two-time GLVC Academic All-Conference Team honoree.
Prior to her tenure at UIS, Trueblood played her freshman season (2019) at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where she appeared in 18 matches and logged 59 sets. As a Jaguar, she recorded 234 assists, 17 service aces and 103 digs.
Trueblood attended Plainfield Central High School, where she was named second team all-state and helped the Wildcats win a regional championship her freshman year. On the club circuit, she competed for UNO Volleyball Club, which won nationals in 2016 and 2018.
Trueblood is the daughter of Janette and Paul Trueblood. She has one sibling, Rylee. Her mother played volleyball at University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1994-95. Trueblood earned her undergraduate degree from UIS in exercise science.
