Badgers Begin Foreign Tour with a Victory


Istanbul, Turkey – The Wisconsin volleyball team opened its European Tour with a sweep of VakifBank Spor Kubülü Juniors team on Sunday afternoon. The Badgers downed VakifBank 25-21, 25-15, 25-23.
 
One of the newest Badgers to join the 2023 squad, graduate Temi Thomas-Ailara, led Wisconsin with 10 kills, while junior Anna Smrek (9) and Devyn Robinson (6) combined for 15 kills for a well-balanced offense for the Badgers.

Sophomore Carter Booth led the Badger defense at the net, recording six blocks and Smrek followed with four.

 

Both Izzy Ashburn and MJ Hammill totaled 33 assists, with Hammill leading the way at 20.

 

Gulce Guctekin dominated the backcourt, leading the team with 17 digs. She also served up five aces in a Badger rally of 11-straight points in the second set.
