LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s volleyball program, under new head coach Alfee Reft, will officially begin its new era on Friday, Aug. 25 for the 2023 season opener against LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Bruins have 10 scheduled home matches, beginning with their home opener versus rival USC on Wednesday, Sept. 20 in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
Fans can get an early glimpse at the Bruins when they play an exhibition at Cal Baptist on Friday, Aug. 18 prior to the beginning of the regular season. UCLA will also play a pair of matches at Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif. on Sept. 1 and 2 against Indiana and Long Beach State, respectively.
UCLA’s non-conference slate also includes trips to Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. (Aug. 28), Honolulu, Hawaii where it will face Pepperdine, Liberty and Hawai’i (Sept. 7-10) and Norman, Okla. for two meetings against the Sooners (Sept. 15 and 16).
The Bruins open Pac-12 Conference competition with four consecutive home matches. After the Trojans, UCLA will take on Oregon (Sept. 24), Colorado (Sept. 29) and Utah (Oct. 1).
The Pac-12 Networks is scheduled to broadcast 11 of UCLA’s 20 conference games this year, including seven home tilts at Pauley Pavilion.
In charge of the Bruins is first-year head coach Alfee Reft who arrives to Westwood after leading San Diego to its first-ever National Semifinal appearance in the NCAA Tournament in his role as associate head coach. Joining Reft on his staff are associate head coach Jen Malcom (previously at Iowa State) and assistants Amir Lugo-Rodriguez (previously at Northwestern).
The new-look Bruins will feature seven newcomers, including four freshmen and three transfers.
