SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah volleyball program announced its 2023 schedule, highlighted by matches against 10 NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago and four in-state opponents.
Utah will get action started in Salt Lake City with an exhibition match against Colorado State on Saturday, Aug. 19. The opening weekend of the 2023 season officially starts in Orem, Utah, as the Utes are set to play at the Utah Valley Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26. Opponents and match times will be announced at a later date.
Utah remains in its home state and will travel the opposite direction, heading north to play Utah State for a mid-week match on Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Logan. The home opener for Utah Volleyball fans will be Friday, Sept. 1, when the Utes host UNLV and welcome former associate head coach Malia Shoji back to town in her first season as the Rebels’ head coach.
Utah continues non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 5, when it heads out of the state for the first time to play at Portland State. The annual Utah Classic at the Jon M. Huntsman Center takes place that weekend with matches on Friday, Sept. 8, against Tennessee State and UC Santa Barbara. The final match of the home tournament for Utah will be on Saturday against San Francisco.
The final week of non-conference play wraps up with contests against BYU and Weber State. The Utes head to Provo to play BYU on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and then return home for a Friday night battle against Weber State on Friday, Sept. 15.
Pac-12 Conference action begins on the road at Colorado (Sept. 21) before the team travels back to Salt Lake City to host California for their Pac-12 home opener on Sunday, Sept. 24. Utah spends the next week in Los Angeles to play at USC (Sept. 29) and UCLA (Oct. 1), and then returns home to face Oregon State (Oct. 6) and Oregon (Oct. 8) in the Huntsman Center.
Utah heads to the Pacific Northwest to face Washington State (Oct. 13) and Washington (Oct. 15) ahead of a four-match home stand. The Utes kick off the home stretch in Salt Lake City against Arizona State (Oct. 20) and Arizona (Oct. 22), while they are set to host UCLA (Oct. 27) and USC (Oct. 29) to begin the second half of Pac-12 play.
After four matches at home, the Utes will turn their attention back to the road for the next four…
