Pac-12 Releases Preseason Volleyball Poll

BOULDER – The 2023 Pac-12 Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll was announced Friday morning, with the Buffaloes being slotted sixth in the conference.

This marks the highest preseason Pac-12 ranking for the Buffs and Coach Mahoney since the 2018 season, when they were projected to finish fifth. CU ended last season with a 20-11 record, good enough for a fifth place finish in the conference and four spots higher than predicted from the 2022 preseason poll.

2022 Overview

Colorado earned a winning record (12-8) against their fellow Pac-12 opponents last season for the first time since 2017 when they also had a record of 12-8. All 12 of CU’s conference wins lasted four sets or less, including five sweeps.

A significant win for the Buffs took place against Washington last year. After losing the previous 10 matchups in Seattle against the Huskies, the Buffs took down No. 21 ranked Washington in three sets, completing the sweep and earning the program’s first ever win inside of Alaska Airlines Arena. CU also swept USC and UCLA at home for the first time in school history during alumnae weekend back in October.

For 2023, the Buffs are scheduled to play 11 non-conference matches, including two home tournaments to open the season. Colorado will open with conference play in September when they welcome Utah and Stanford to the CU Events Center.
