Duke Drops Match to Loyola Chicago

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –  The Duke volleyball team fell to Loyola Chicago, 3-0 (23-25, 22-25, 18-25), Saturday evening on the second day of the Reamer Club Xtra Special Premier in West Lafayette, Ind. 

Graduate student Gracie Johnson led the Blue Devils offensively with 10 kills and added 11 digs for her first double-double of the year. Graduate student setter Emma Worthington dished 19 assists while Rylie Kadel led the blocking contingent with three total blocks, including one solo.

Loyola Chicago’s Karlie McNabb tallied 16 kills while libero Grace Hinchman collected 21 digs to help lead the Ramblers. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke struggled to fall into a rhythm offensively and was limited to a .118 hitting percentage for the match. 
  • The first set proved to be a back-and-forth affair that featured 12 ties. Kerry Keefe gave the Blue Devils a spark offensively with four kills as Duke’s block also got it done, led by Kadel with a solo and two assists at the net. 
  • Trailing 1-0, Johnson and Lizzie Fleming combined for five kills and no errors in the second but couldn’t find an answer to take the set. 
  • Loyola Chicago saw its best offensive output in the third frame as it hit .303 percent to take the match.
