Báez Rentas Named NE10 Setter of the Week, Farnan and Patterson Also Lauded


COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College women’s volleyball junior Alexandra Báez Rentas (San Juan, Puerto Rico/New Dimensions) was named Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Sept. 3. Sophomore Ella Patterson (Folsom, Calif./Vista Del Lago) and first-year Kyle Farnan (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) both earned spots on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.

Báez Rentas averaged 9.6 assists, 4.2 digs, 0.53 kills, 0.33 blocks and 0.27 aces per set while hitting .412 during a 1-3 weekend. In a 3-1 loss on Saturday to 2022 NCAA Tournament qualifier Saint Anselm College, she turned in 38 assists, 18 digs, three blocks and two kills before adding 31 helpers, 11 digs, three kills and a block in a 3-0 loss to Edinboro (Pa.) University. She keyed a 3-2 victory over Georgian Court (N.J.) University on Sunday with 53 assists, 22 digs, two aces, one kill and one block, dropping an ace at match point, becoming the first Purple Knight with a 50-20 performance since Oct. 31, 2006. During a 3-0 loss to reigning NCAA regional champion Southern New Hampshire University, Báez Rentas turned in 22 assists, 12 digs, two kills and a block. A second-year captain, Báez Rentas leads the NE10 in assists per set while sitting fourth in digs average. She had a breakout season as a sophomore, taking ninth in the NE10 in assists (7.2) and 10th in digs (3.8).

Patterson posted 4.0 kills, 2.3 digs, 0.87 blocks and 0.33 aces per set from her outside hitter spot during the weekend to enter the second week of the season first in the NE10 in kills (60) and tied for first in kills average. She turned in 19 kills, 10 digs, three aces, two blocks and an assist at Saint Anselm before collecting 11 kills, 13 digs, one ace and one block versus Edinboro. Patterson was instrumental in the 3-2 victory against Georgian Court, with 23 kills, six digs, five blocks and two assists. Her kill total was the highest by a Purple Knight since Sept. 13, 2009. Patterson notched seven kills, six digs, an assist and an ace at Southern New Hampshire. An NE10 All-Rookie Team pick last fall, she notched a team-high 144 kills as a first-year while adding 141 digs and 11 aces.

A defensive specialist/libero, Farnan contributed 5.3 digs, 1.4 assists and 0.27 aces per set while being aced only three times over the weekend. At Saint Anselm, Farnan posted 23 digs, eight assists and an ace before turning in 25 digs and seven assists against Edinboro. She tallied 18 digs, four assists and two…
