NEW YORK, N.Y. – Rutgers volleyball collected another sweep on Friday afternoon defeating Morgan State, 25-23, 25-11, 25-12 in the first two games at Levien Gymnasium on the campus of Columbia University this weekend.
The win improved the Scarlet Knights to 6-1 on the season. The Bears, meanwhile, dropped to 1-6 overall.
- Rutgers hit .321 for the match while the Bears were in the negative for the second and third sets.
- Redshirt sophomore Alissa Kinkela led with a match-high 10 kills swinging .533 for the afternoon. Senior
- Tina Grkovic hit a match-best .545 committing only one error with seven kills on 10 swings.
- Sophomore Bekah Williams totaled four of RU’s eight aces to go along with eight kills.
- Freshman Anna Hartman also posted eight kills in the win.
- Defensively, redshirt sophomore Rikki Williams collected four of RU’s 11 total blocks and senior Madyson Chitty logged a match-high eight digs
- Set 1 (25-23) | Rutgers’ late surge was fueled by Alissa Kinkela as she used all four of her kills down the stretch to put RU up in the opening frame. With Morgan State leading 18-14, momentum shifted to the Knights. A 5-0 spurt capped by a trio of kills from Kinkela put Rutgers in front 23-21 with the Melbourne, Australia native going on to collect set point.
