NORTHAMPTON, MASS. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball squad dropped its Friday evening matchup in the opener of the Bonnie May Invitational, falling to the hosts from Smith College in straight-sets, 3-0.
In the loss, Morgan Richardson ’25 paced Elmira with six kills, while Asia Curkendall ’25 finished with 14 set assists. Additionally, Gabriela Rodriguez ’26 ended the evening with eight digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers hit a match-high .500 in the opening set, which included 14 kills compared to just four for the Soaring Eagles as they went on to take the set, 25-8.
- In the second, Smith finished with a .303 hitting percentage, while scoring on 13 of the first 21 points, eventually taking the set 25-19.
- In the third, Elmira was able to keep the score close through the early-going, but a 10-1 run from the Pioneers would be enough for the home squad to take the match in straight sets.
- For the match, Maddie Boucher ’24 would finish with five kills, while also finishing with five service aces, increasing her season total to 18 which ranks within the top-25 of NCAA Division III.

The Soaring Eagles return to the floor for the second day of the Bonnie May Invitational tomorrow inside Scott Gymnasium when taking on Lasell (10:00 AM) and Western New England (12:00 PM).
