DENVER — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team split its two matches Saturday (Sept. 9) to finish the Colorado Premier Challenge 2-2. The Flyers fell to Ferris State, 3-1, in the morning before beating No. 16 California State-Los Angeles 3-2 in the evening.

Set 1: Lewis 25, Ferris State 23
The teams went back-and-forth to start, with neither side gaining more than a one-point edge until Lewis grabbed a 9-7 advantage. After one point for Ferris State, the Flyers earned five consecutive kills to take a 14-8 lead.
The Bulldogs captured five of the next seven points to trim Lewis’ advantage to three and kept fighting to tie the set at 21-21.
The Flyers’ attack proved too strong, with three more kills the rest of the way including Madison Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) posting the set-clinching attack. Lewis hit .333 in the opening set.
Set 2: Ferris State 25, Lewis 9
Lewis never got going in the second set, allowing a 6-0 run by Ferris State to capture a 7-2 lead for the Bulldogs early on.
Ferris State used another 6-0 run to push the lead to 22-8, and finished the set on the Flyers’ ninth attack error in the frame, while the Bulldogs had a clean set without a single attack error.
Set 3: Ferris State 25, Lewis 22
Lewis took advantage of two early service errors by Ferris State to take a 5-3 lead, but the Bulldogs responded with a 4-0 run to snag the advantage. The Flyers struck back by taking five of the next seven points to earn a 10-9 lead.
Ferris State then secured eight of the next 10 points to grab a set-high five-point advantage before Lewis nabbed the next four points. The Bulldogs, though, pushed back with three points in a row to make it 20-16.
The teams went back-and-forth for the rest of the set, with the Flyers unable to bring the deficit under two points as Ferris State finished off the frame with a kill.
Set 4: Ferris State 25, Lewis 22
To start the fourth set, the Bulldogs looked to put the match away by grabbing a 4-1 lead. Lewis punched back, getting within one point making it 8-7…
